Basics on West Highland Terriers
West Highland Terriers are know as “Westies” in most places. Their
AKC group is AKC Terrier. Their origin comes from Argyll, Scotland.
Westies can end up anywhere between 9 inches to 12 inches. Boy and
girl dogs usually are a bit different in their height and weight.
Boy dogs usually end up heavier and taller than girl dogs. Their
weight can be anything from 13 pounds to 22 pounds. West Highland
Terriers are pretty small dogs. These dogs need a walk every day,
like most other breeds.
Temperament West
Highland Terriers are very friendly towards strangers. Westies are
extremely good with children!!
The West Highland Terrier is an extremely spirited dog that
is alert and generally a very happy breed. They also don’t start
fights with other dogs. Westies do make good watch dogs, besides
their size. Westies are very easy to travel with because of their
small size though.
Is there anything unique about this breed?
There is something unique about Westies!! Since Westies are smaller
than many other breeds, this breed usually has a longer life span.
There life span is 15 or more years. Usually, they live longer than
15 years.

Intelligence & Grooming
Westies are very intelligent dogs. Westies will always be ready at
your command! They are ready for anything!!!
You need to brush Westies regularly. These dogs shed no hair, or
very little hair. You do need to cut their hair every once and a
while by the ears and eyes. These dogs are very easy to groom.
Family dog??
West Highland Terriers are definitely family dogs! They work great
with children. Westies are really nice, and super friendly. Not only
this, but Westies are ready to play with children!!!
Feeding
Westies, like any other breed, should be fed with foods that have
the correct amount of protein and other certain things. Having the
right balance of all of these will keep a Westie, like any other
breed, healthy and happy!! |
